I have taught GCSE and A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Core Mathematics, and IB Higher and Standard Levels since I began teaching in 1985. My experience extends to Adult Education too. My research and interest in supporting students in developing the skills of independent learning would also be of use. I have thirty-eight years’ experience of teaching in three Norfolk schools with significant success. I have always prepared materials to support the learning of my students. I encourage students to be active in lessons. I want them to enjoy mathematics and where possible I encourage problem-solving and collaboration often using tasks from sites like Nrich and Mathspad. I also use ideas adapted from recreational mathematics books by respected authors and educators like Ian Stewart, Marcus du Sautoy, Jo Boaler to name but three. Variety is provided by revision sites including the videos of fuse school, maths genie etc. I have a keen interest in research into effective teaching and learning methods, with a focus on mathematics. Some of these have been shared with colleagues at conferences, e.g., BCME 2016.
