Billy has been a professional, qualified teacher of English for five years. In his last two years working in the leadership team at an ‘Outstanding’ comprehensive academy, he led the development of a reading curriculum for pupils who struggle with engagement, motivation, and with their reading level at secondary school. During his Teach First placement at another comprehensive academy, he wrote a programme for the 6th Form to develop their personal statements and gain admission to Russell Group Universities.
Prior to becoming a teacher, Billy graduated with a Master’s degree in English Literature from UCL and a first class undergraduate degree in English and Comparative Literature from Warwick. Billy unlocks university level thinking for his students. He encourages young people to become independent and self-efficacious learners by adopting a constantly questioning approach in preparation for the challenges of their assessments and afterwards. By providing consistent, clear and immediate feedback in conversation and in writing, Billy helps young people develop the self-aware and reflexive outlook possessed by great readers and great writers. He provides interactive feedback using innovative approaches such as shared Google Docs and Padlet during his online lessons.
